Focus on Protein Security, Farmers’ Income, Employment Generation, Modern Technology and Biosecurity
The First Poultry Conclave, Gorakhpur, was successfully organized on August 23, 2026, at Baba Gambhir Nath Prekshagrih, Tara Mandal Road, Gorakhpur, with the objective of providing a new direction to the development of the poultry sector in eastern Uttar Pradesh and bringing farmers, entrepreneurs, veterinarians, scientists, industry representatives, policymakers and government officials onto a common platform.
The one-day conclave witnessed extensive deliberations on the present status and future prospects of the poultry sector, the importance of eggs and chicken as sources of high-quality protein, particularly for women and children, modern poultry technologies, scientific farm management, biosecurity, disease prevention and control, quality production, marketing, investment, employment generation and increasing farmers’ income.
The inaugural session was attended by Chief Guest Dr. Dharmendra Singh, Hon’ble Member of the Legislative Council and State Vice President, BJP. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Singh highlighted the important role of poultry farming in strengthening the rural economy. He said that, alongside agriculture and animal husbandry, the poultry sector has immense potential to generate employment and self-employment opportunities for farmers and rural youth. He emphasized that the adoption of modern technology, scientific approaches and improved management practices can significantly enhance productivity and profitability.
Special Guests Shri Mahendra Pal Singh, Hon’ble MLA, Pipraich, and Shri Pradeep Shukla, Hon’ble MLA, Sahjanwa, also addressed the conclave. Both public representatives highlighted the considerable potential of poultry farming in eastern Uttar Pradesh and emphasized that planned development of the sector can create employment opportunities at the local level and contribute substantially to improving the income of farmers and young entrepreneurs. They called for collective efforts to provide appropriate support to farmers and entrepreneurs.
The conclave was also graced by Shri Mukesh Meshram, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy, Government of Uttar Pradesh. He shared detailed insights into government initiatives, departmental priorities and the future prospects of the animal husbandry and poultry sectors. He emphasized that these sectors are important not only from the perspective of nutritional security but also for strengthening the rural economy and creating employment. He stressed the importance of scientific production methods, modern management practices and efficient market systems for the sustainable growth of the sector.
Prof. & Head Dr. Pankaj Kumar Shukla, Department of Poultry Science, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Veterinary Science University, and President, IPSA, highlighted the importance of scientific approaches, research, training and modern technology in poultry production. He emphasized the need to strengthen technical guidance and capacity-building programmes for farmers and entrepreneurs.
Several leading experts and industry representatives shared their experience and views during the conclave. Prominent participants included Shri Suresh Chitturi, Dr. Shreeesh Nigam, Dr. Neeraj Srivastava, Shri O.P. Singh, Shri Uday Singh Bayas, Dr. Santosh Ere, Dr. Jitendra Verma, Dr. Sharad Singh, Shri V.P. Singh and Shri Raju Singh. The speakers discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the poultry sector, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, and presented practical perspectives based on their respective areas of expertise.
A large number of departmental officials and veterinarians also participated in the event. These included Dr. Anil Kumar, AD-I; Dr. Ved Prakash, AD-II; all CVOs of Gorakhpur Division; Dr. Brijesh Tripathi; Dr. Gyanendra Singh; Dr. Bipasha; Dr. Vimlendu Bhatt; Dr. Alok Rai; Dr. V.P. Singh; Dr. Saroj Chaudhary; Dr. Atul Yadav; Dr. Sri Krishna Mishra; Dr. Subodh Kumar; Dr. Janardan Yadav; Shri Swatantra Veer; Shri Ravi; Shri Abhishek; Shri Deepak and Shri Anivesh, along with other veterinarians from Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar and Deoria.
Several eminent poultry farmers, including Shri Obada, Shri Faiz, Shri Vinod Singh and Shri Ravi Shankar Tiwari, also participated in the conclave and contributed their practical experience to the discussions.
Experts observed that the poultry sector is no longer confined to conventional egg and meat production but has emerged as a diversified and rapidly developing agriculture-based industry. They emphasized the importance of quality chicks, balanced nutrition, scientific farm management, disease prevention, biosecurity, modern housing systems, hatchery management, reduction in production costs and efficient marketing mechanisms.
The technical sessions focused on modern poultry farming practices, enhancement of production capacity, quality control, disease prevention and biosecurity. Participants were introduced to modern technologies being adopted in poultry production and were informed about emerging trends and the likely future developments in the sector.
During the discussions, experts highlighted the immense potential of Gorakhpur Division and eastern Uttar Pradesh for poultry development. The region’s growing population, increasing demand for nutritious food, availability of markets and entrepreneurial potential among young people provide a strong foundation for expansion of the poultry industry. Speakers stressed that greater coordination among farmers, entrepreneurs, scientists, veterinarians, government officials and public representatives will be essential to realize this potential.
The conclave also gave considerable attention to the practical challenges faced by small and medium poultry farmers. Experts emphasized the need for regular training, technical guidance, timely veterinary and scientific advice, access to modern technology and better linkages with markets. Strengthening these support systems, they said, would enable small and medium-scale farmers to improve productivity, reduce risks and increase profitability.
Biosecurity emerged as one of the key priorities discussed during the conclave. Experts emphasized farm-level cleanliness, controlled entry, proper vaccination, disease surveillance and scientific management practices as essential measures for disease prevention. They noted that healthy poultry production is important not only for protecting farmers’ investments but also for ensuring safe and quality food for consumers.
The importance of nutritional security and protein availability was also emphasized. Speakers highlighted eggs and chicken as important sources of high-quality protein and stressed the need to promote awareness regarding balanced nutrition, particularly among women and children.
The conclave further emphasized the need to encourage women and young entrepreneurs to participate actively in the poultry sector. The relatively short production cycles, growing consumer demand and opportunities across different stages of the poultry value chain make the sector an attractive avenue for entrepreneurship and self-employment. Small and medium poultry enterprises in rural areas, if supported with appropriate technology and training, can contribute significantly to strengthening local economies.
Experts also called for stronger coordination between investors, poultry industry stakeholders and farmers. Collaboration among government departments, academic and research institutions and the private sector, they said, can accelerate technological advancement, improve access to knowledge and finance, strengthen markets and provide new momentum to poultry development.
The First Poultry Conclave, Gorakhpur, thus emerged as an important platform for dialogue and knowledge-sharing among the government, poultry industry, scientific community, veterinarians, farmers and entrepreneurs. Participants expressed the view that similar conclaves and technical programmes should continue to be organized so that the latest technologies, scientific knowledge and practical experiences can reach farmers and entrepreneurs across the region.
The conclave conveyed a clear message that Gorakhpur and eastern Uttar Pradesh have the potential to emerge as an important poultry production hub if scientific technology, quality inputs, proper training, modern management, biosecurity and effective stakeholder cooperation are integrated with planned development initiatives.
The successful one-day conclave concluded with a collective commitment towards the sustainable and comprehensive development of the poultry sector, enhancement of farmers’ incomes, creation of employment and self-employment opportunities for youth, promotion of women entrepreneurship, strengthening of protein and nutritional security, and wider adoption of modern and scientific poultry production practices.
The public representatives, government officials, scientists, veterinarians, industry representatives, poultry farmers and other participants expressed satisfaction over the successful organization of the conclave and described it as a meaningful initiative towards strengthening the poultry sector in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
