The Indian Federation of Animal Health Companies (INFAH) honoured Dr. Ramesh Sikka, a distinguished animal healthcare professional and veteran of the veterinary industry, with the prestigious INFAH Award in recognition of his exemplary and sustained contribution to the animal health industry.
With a career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Sikka has played an influential role in advancing animal health, strengthening the veterinary profession and contributing to the development of the animal healthcare sector in India and beyond.
A graduate in Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) from the College of Veterinary Science, Ranchi, Dr. Sikka began his professional journey in 1978 as a Veterinary Representative with Sarabhai Chemicals. His exceptional professional capabilities were recognised early in his career when he achieved the All-India No. 1 position in Sales Performance during his first year. During this phase, he also contributed to obtaining feed supplement approval for Live Appu, the elephant mascot of the 1982 Asian Games.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Dr. Sikka has held several important leadership positions with leading multinational and joint-venture organisations, including Intervet (later MSD Animal Health), Novus International and Curewel India. During his 21-year association with Intervet, he progressed through various leadership roles, rising from Manager, Veterinary Operations, to Vice President and Business Head, and subsequently serving as Chief Representative in Sri Lanka and General Manager, International Business.
Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Dr. Sikka has consistently worked towards strengthening the veterinary profession and expanding professional networks across South Asia. His initiatives have included the development of the Digital Sri Lankan Veterinarians Guide, compilation of the Sri Lankan Poultry Handbook, and promotion of awareness initiatives concerning critical animal health challenges, including Avian Influenza.
Dr. Sikka’s professional journey has also been marked by a strong commitment to continuous learning and knowledge development. He has undertaken advanced executive training at prestigious institutions, including XLRI and IIM Ahmedabad. His contribution to veterinary communication and professional development includes initiatives such as the All India Veterinarian Guide (1997) and the Flying with Heroes series, along with other publications and projects aimed at highlighting the importance and contribution of the veterinary profession.
His association with the veterinary community extends beyond the corporate sector. Dr. Sikka has served as Vice President of the Vets Club of Greater Delhi and the Vets Club of Calcutta and has been associated with several professional societies connected with animal nutrition, medicine and surgery.
A strong advocate of knowledge sharing and professional outreach, Dr. Sikka has also contributed to veterinary awareness through mass media. His appearances on Doordarshan and programmes such as You & Your Pets helped bring animal health and veterinary subjects to a wider audience.
His contribution to the profession has been recognised through several honours, including the Vijayashree Award, Bharat Excellence Award and Gold Medal, along with recognition from the Sri Lanka Veterinary Association and AIPIA.
Today, through Dr. Sikka & Associates, he continues to contribute to the animal health sector and document the legacy of pioneers who have helped shape India’s poultry and animal healthcare industries. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to professional excellence, knowledge sharing and the advancement of veterinary and animal health services.
